Golden Eagle

The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is a large bird of prey. Formerly widespread in Europe, this majestic animal is now only found in mountainous regions. In Germany, golden eagles only breed in the Alps.

The species is still widespread outside Europe - its habitat covers the entire northern hemisphere. Thanks to various conservation programs, breeding and hunting bans, the bird is no longer considered endangered and has a population of 250,000 (IUCN).
