BlueBrixx is proud to present you a 1:900 scale version of one of the most iconic places in France, the Mont St Michel!
The Mont Saint Michel is located in Normandy and is one of the ten most visited places in France. It owes its name to Archangel Michael, the protector of pilgrims. An abbey was founded at the top of the island at an altitude of 80m in the year 709, hosting canon priests and later Benedictine monks. The fortified village has been a place of pilgrimage since the 9th century, welcoming travellers in its inns and abbey for centuries. Fortification walls were built over the centuries all around the village, turning it into a real fortress protected from invaders, including the Vikings and later the English during the Hundred Years' War. The peninsula is surrounded by a bay where the tide rises "as fast as a galloping horse", making it an isolated site naturally protected by the sea. During the Hundred Years' War as the rest of Normandy was under the control of the Kingdom of England, the Mont Saint Michel became a true symbol of resistance against the English occupiers. The fortress was besieged between 1423 and 1440 but the brave knights of King Charles VII were able to resist and repel the enemy several times.
