Compiegne Wagon (22 June 1940)

The signing of the armistice between France and the German Reich on June 22, 1940 ended Hitler's western campaign and was tantamount to the surrender of France.

Hitler saw this as an opportunity to avenge the defeat of 1918 and chose the same place and even the same train carriage for the signing. Germany also dictated the entire contents of the treaty - as France and Great Britain had done in 1918.
